About The Monologue
The Monologue is an independent publication launched in July 2025 by Clem Bastow. It's a mix of culture writing and the occasional interview, written with an expressly Autistic positionality.
New posts for The Monologue come out every week (ish): this newsletter runs on crip time. While I can't guarantee that it'll hit your inbox at the same time every week, I can guarantee that every missive from The Monologue will be true to its guiding principles of unlearning digital media churn, unmasking, and reframing the neurotypical gaze. To read it, and to receive it, is to experience 'an affective sense of autism'.
By subscribing, you are supporting things including but not limited to Autistic poetics, Autistic joy, dismantling dominant neurotypical paradigms, and stopping me from talking my loved ones' ears off about [insert current topic of interest here]. Paid subscriptions are nice but not necessary.
And yes, the subscription tier names are inspired by The Fast Show's 'Jazz Club' cutaways.
The Monologue is created on the unceded, sovereign lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Eastern Kulin Nation. If you aren't already doing so, join me in Paying The Rent with a recurring donation - I give monthly to The Dhajowa Foundation and Djirra.
